CU student feared abducted serving jail sentence for misdemeanour
Mohammad Iftekharul Islam, a first-year student of English Department, was sent to jail for 15 days by a railway mobile court at Laksham junction last Wednesday for travelling without ticket from Chittagong the day before, police said.
Iftekhar was initially fined Tk 100, but the magistrate later decided to send the repeat offender to jail for his arrogance, said a railway official requesting anonymity.
"Had he not misbehaved with the magistrate, Iftekhar would have been released considering his young age and student status," he added.
The matter came to light after Iftekhar contacted his family over phone immediately after the sentence.
Earlier, Iftekhar's father filed a general diary (GD) with Chan-dgaon Police fearing his son's abduction.
