ID card mandatory for drivers

In a bid to ensuring passenger security, government has made mandatory to show the identity card of all CNG three-wheelers and taxicab drivers with photograph at a prominent place of their respective vehicle.

It was decided at a meeting of the high-powered committee formed by the prime minister for the overall development of the communications sector at the communication ministry yesterday.

With Communications Minister Nazmul Huda in the chair, the meeting also decided to kick off fresh police operation against the old unfit vehicles plying on the city streets defying ban.

The meeting sources said legal action will be taken against those vehicles which have been plying with passengers beyond the sitting capacity.

The meeting also reviewed the toll collection situation in the transport sector including three city bus terminals and observed that overall toll collection situation throughout the country has reduced.

Dhaka City Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka, Housing and Public Works Minister Mirza Abbas, State Minister for Labour and Employment Amanullah Aman, MPs SA Khaleq and GM Siraj and Communication Secretary Syed Rezaul Hayat were present.
