Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday urged the government not to increase the price of gas on the recommendation of the World Bank (WB).

In a statement, Mujahidul Islam Selim, secretary general of the CPB, said the price of gas had already been increased nearly 70 per cent over the last 10 years.

" Life of general people would be affected badly if the price of gas is raised after every six months under pressure from the WB," he added.

The CPB secretary general also urged the government to supply gas all over the country.

He said the prescription of the WB never served the interest of the people of Bangladesh rather its prescriptions badly affected the economy of the country.

Selim urged the people to initiate movement in order to realise compensation from the WB as Bangladesh had to incur huge losses by following its suggestions earlier.
