A delegation of Japan Used Car Exporters Association (JUCEA) arrives in Dhaka tonight on a five-day visit against the backdrop of the Bangladesh government's tough stance on import of reconditioned automobiles.

The delegation, headed by Hiroshi Sato, chairman of the JUCEA, will call on Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman, Commerce Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Forest and Environment Minister Shajahan Siraj. They will also meet policymakers to urge the government to continue with importing used (reconditioned) cars from Japan. The team will also visit Chittagong and exchange views with local auto traders, sources said.

JUCEA Vice-chairman Yeachunuri Fujinu and directors Cinici Menomey, Tosio Kemora, Wataro Katso, Nabhue Mitsuhasi, Keysuke Fukuda, Takaeuki Minoya and Keuzi Nisimura will also come with the delegation under the arrangement of Japanese finance ministry, foreign ministry and Japanese embassy in Dhaka, sources added.

The finance minister, in his recent budget speech, announced that import of reconditioned vehicles would be allowed only for another two years.
