An abducted Bangladeshi student was rescued yesterday from a hotel of the capital Kohima of Indian northeastern State Nagaland.

Nagaland police also arrested four extremists involved in the abduction, said the BBC Bangla Service.

Rafiqul, a college student of Sunamgong, was abducted on July 9 from his village. Rafiqul's family alleged that the kidnappers took their son to the other side of the border.

Rafiqul told police that his father Abdul Mannan sent ransom to the kidnappers a few days back but the villagers caught and beat up two of the abductors while they were receiving the money. Others along with Rafiqul crossed the border.

The kidnappers failed to realise the ransom, as police beefed up their activities to nab them. That is why they kept Rafiqul confined until police ease their operation, the BBC quoted the Nagaland police as saying.
