Prosecution ends arguments

The prosecution lawyers yesterday completed their arguments in college student Faisal murder case.

The lawyers made submissions on the statements of the prosecution witnesses and sought exemplary punishment to the accused in the case.

Hossain Shahid Ahmad, judge of the Second Additional Metropolitan sessions Judge's Court, Dhaka, has fixed September 22 for arguments of the defence lawyers. The court had earlier recorded statements of 22 out of 38 prosecution witnesses.

ABM Faisal, 18, a student of Dhaka College, was killed by a gang of assailants at their Azimpur residence on February 3, 2000.

Victim's father Anwarul Hossain filed a murder case with Lalbagh Police Station the same day.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police pressed charges against four on January 15, 2001. They are Atiqur Rahman alias Sohel, Parul, Ibrahim Sumon and Gopal Kumar Saha.

Of them, Sohel and Parul are now on bail while Sumon and Gopal still at large. Sumon is a cousin of the victim, Faisal.

The court framed charges against the four on April 27 last year and the trial began on July 15.
