Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui has urged the members of the Lions Club International (LCI) to stand beside the acid victims by providing medical facilities to them.

He also urged them to extend their financial support to the rural women so that they can become solvent financially.

He was speaking as chief guest at a seminar titled on ' Women's involvement in social work and leadership in Bangladesh' organised by Lions Club International, Bangladesh at a city hotel on Wednesday.

"Although women of our country are now taking part in various social activities, their number is still very negligible", said the deputy speaker.

He said it would be difficult for us to go ahead leaving half of the population outside the development purview.

The deputy speaker said the condition of our educated women is comparatively well as they are being employed in different departments including police and armed forces.

He also hailed the Lions Club International for their blood donation and eye hospital programme.

The seminar was also addressed by Selina Khaled, Nasreen Awal Minto and Professor Niaz Zaman.
