DU budget today
Tk 94.77 crore revenue budget has been proposed with a deficit of Tk 8 crore.
Of the total amount, the government will provide Tk 79.25 crore while the university is expected to earn about Tk 15.52 crore from its own sources.
Sources said the DU authorities want to earn an additional amount of Tk 50 lakh from its internal sources by increasing fees.
'We have increased about one per cent of our contribution to the budget this year,' Treasurer Syed Rashidul Hasan told this correspondent. But there would be no increase in admission fees in the proposed budget, he added.
He said about 72 per cent of the budget will be spent for salary and pension of the teachers, officers and employees while 12.8 per cent will be spent for the development of education. Around 14.78 per cent of the budget will be spent to give logistic supports to various departments while Tk 1.50 crore has been allocated for telephone sector.
Sources said proposals for introducing evening courses including physical education course might have been placed before the senate meeting.
The university authorities are expected to make up the deficit of the budget from the income of evening courses and physical education course, sources said.
The revised budget for fiscal 2002-03 will also be placed at the meeting. The government has allocated Tk 5 crore for revised budget, sources added.
