Child carnival begins tomorrow

7A three-day long child carnival begins in the city tomorrow to raise funds for war affected Iraqi children.

Hath Barie Dao (Stretch Your Arms), a mission by children for children, is organising the carnival.

The carnival includes art competition and exhibition and students' business fair at the Sports Zone in the city.

At a press conference at the National Press club yesterday, coordinators of the carnival said they will also extend their hands for underprivileged children at any corner of the world.

The daylong business fair will be held from 9.00am to 3.00pm tomorrow. It will be participated by child businessmen/women who will donate 50 per cent of their profit to the fund for Iraqi children. Ten of them will be rewarded as best sellers.

"We will learn how to make profit by running business and develop the mentality of donating for distressed humanity," said child journalist Zerin Khan, a coordinator of the mission.

The art exhibition will be held tomorrow and June 29 and 30. Three child artists from each group of 'Ka and Kha will be rewarded for best art.

Sculptor Ferdousi Priyobhashini is expected to inaugurate the carnival.

Child journalists Umama Nouroz Ettela, M Sharful Islam, Saiful Imam Saief, Fahmida Wadud Choity, Kazi Arefin Ahmed Shosi, Sharmin Jannat and Karishma were present at the press conference.

"From now on we will be with the disaster affected children at any corner of the world, Ettela said.

"Our next programme, a concert comprising 10 band groups who will perform voluntarily, will be held at Dhanmondi Women Complex on July 4, Karishma said adding that their future plan for raising fund includes magic show, film festival and ornament show of the celebrities.

Forty per cent of the fund will be spent for underprivileged children of Bangladesh and the rest for Iraqi and children of other parts of the world, she added.

The fund for the Iraqi children would be handed over to the Prime Minister who will send it to them.
