DB men murder: Two placed on fresh remand

Two persons, arrested in connection with the killing of two Detective Branch (DB) officials at Malibagh last month, were placed on a fresh two-day police remand yesterday.

Istiaque Ahmed alias Jitu and Khwaja Mohammad Tahsin were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka, after completion of a three-day remand.

The two, close associates of notorious criminal Pichchi Shamim, are also accused in a murder case filed with the Ramna Police Station.

Earlier, police arrested Habibur Rahman, Abdul Alim Shahin, Saidur Rahman Bachchu, Billal Hossain and Mosharraf Hossain in connection with the murder. They are all now in jail. But main accused Jishan and Iftekhar are still absconding since the killing.

DB Inspector Noor-e-Alam and Sub-Inspector Mohammad Alamgir were killed in a gunfight with criminals at Hotel Sunrise in Malibagh Chowdhuripara on May 14. Safayet Hossain Upal, an alleged criminal, also died in the gunfight.
