Truck collision kills five in Jhenidah

The dead were identified as Sona Mia, 40, of Bhupalipur and Maznu, 35, of Kanchannagar villages under Jhenidah police station and Tariqul Islam, 42, of Moheshpur and Amir Hossain, 38, of Banaripara in Barisal and Sanaullah, 22, of village Nepa in Kushtia. All the five died on the spot.

According to police and witnesses, the accident occurred when a cow loaded truck bound for Jhenidah collided head on with another truck at Madhupur at around 6am.

Four of the injured were admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital while the rest given first aid.

The bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

The driver of both the vehicles fled the scene immediately after the accident.
