Two outlaws escape from police custody in Khulna

Two PBCP (Purbo Banglar Communist Party) cadres wanted in several criminal and murder cases escaped from DB (Detective Branch) police custody at Chhoto Boyra here yesterday, police said.

Dabirul Islam Dabir, 30, had been arrested Monday night from Jailghat, and Momin Shaikh alias Moyeen, 28, from Chhoto Boyra, said Mahbubul Alam, DC of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP). Moyeen is one of the chargesheeted accused in the AL mayoral candidate SMA Rob murder case.

The two men, who had been left unguarded in a police van, escaped at 4:00am as SI Abdur Rashid and ASI Aminul Islam along with some constables went to search for firearms in a house as per confessional statements of the two. Both still had their handcuffs on.

Despite combing operations in the city and all upazilas of the district, none of the escapees could be arrested till filing of this report last night.

Dabir and Moyeen, who are also suspects in the Daulatpur Jute mills rifle loot case, are believed to have come to Khulna town to carry out a murder operation, KMP sources said.

A similar incident happened on January 26 last year when ringleader of PBCP Abdur Rashid Malitha alias Tapan escaped from police custody at Khulna Judges' Court where he was being taken in connection with AL mayoral candidate SMA Rob murder case.
