Cop beaten up for mugging

The cop was identified as Abdul Mannan, 45, posted at the Election Commission Office in Jamal Khan area.

The incident took place at Andarkilla under Kotwali thana at around 1:00pm.

According to witnesses, when Havilder Mannan forcibly snatched Tk 1 lakh from a businessman, he cried out for help. Local people caught Mannan and beat him up.

A police patrol rescued him in critical condition. Reportedly, they took along the businessman with them as well.

Mannan was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) but the whereabouts of the businessman could not be traced.

However, a high police official on condition of anonymity confirmed the incident and said a case was filed under the Speedy Trial Act.
