Inflation rate stands at 4.87pc

The rate of inflation stood at 4.87 per cent on the basis of economic data in the first nine months (up to March'03) of this fiscal.

The Bangladesh Economic Review'03 observed that in spite of an upward trend in the price of food items, the inflation rate fell to 4.76 per cent in March this year from 5.73 per cent in December last year.

The rate of inflation was 2.36 per cent in 2001-02 fiscal, 1.58 per cent in 2000-2001 and 3.41 per cent in 1999-2000 fiscal.

In the last decade the 1998-99 fiscal saw the highest rate of inflation at 8.91 per cent. The rate increased because of a price hike of essential following a devastating flood.
