The court also fined the convict, Mohiuddin of Hatighata village in Matlab upazila, Tk 5,000, in default, he has to suffer one more year in jail.

According to the prosecution, Mohiuddin picked up Rhidoy, 6, while he was playing with other children at his maternal grandfather's house at the village and strangulated him at a nearby graveyard in a bid to snatch a gold chain from him on December 6, 2000.

Locals caught Mohiuddin and handed him over to police.

Later, a murder case was filed against him.

District and Sessions Judge Shahidul Karim pronounced the judgement.
