60-yr old woman raped in Jessore

Police said there were evidences of rape and murder by strangulation. Police recovered the body from a bush near her house.

According to police, the women had been missing since Monday evening while she was returning home from one of her relative's house.

Nazma Begum, daughter of the victim, alleged that the crime was committed by five young men--Hazrat Ali, Altaf, Rahim, Iman Ali and Alauddin of Bagdanga and Dogachia villages.

Police said Hazrat Ali of Bagdanga wanted to marry Nazma, 30, six years back. But her mother Fatema turned down the proposal.

Police further said Monirul, the only son of the slain woman, was murdered by Hazrat Ali in 1999 for opposing the marriage proposal. The members of the family did not file any case fearing further reprisal.

However, a case has been recorded by the Jessore Kotwali police in connection for the murder of Fatema.
