2 more UP chairmen suspended for forgery in preparing VGD beneficiaries’ list

The LGRD ministry today suspended two more union parishad chairmen on charges of forgery in preparing list of beneficiaries of the prime minister's cash assistance programme and VGD cards.

They are: Arifur Rahman Chowdhury, chairman of No. 11 Khordokomarpur Union Parishad in Sadullapur Upazila of Gaibandha, and Badsha Faisal, chairman of No. 2 Alipura Union Parishad in Dashmina upazila of Patuakhali.

With them, a total of 102 public representatives have been suspended so far since the outbreak of the coronavirus, said a release of LGRD ministry.

Among the suspended, 32 are union parishad chairmen, 64 UP members, one district council member, four municipal councilors and one is a upazila vice-chairman.

According to the Local Government (Union Parishad) Act, 2009, the Local Government Department temporarily sacked the duo from their posts for their criminal activities, added the release.

The suspended public representatives were asked to send reply through the concerned Deputy Commissioners within 10 working days as to why they will not be removed permanently from their posts.
