He studied Graphic Design, and worked as a designer for a gaming company in Europe. However, after a while the work got monotonous and he got bored. His filmmaker friends came as saviours as he was inspired by their profession and their creativity. He quit his job, returned home, and donned the hat of a filmmaker. Asif Islam is currently co-directing the feature film Paatshala with Faisal Roddy, which tells the story about a ten-year-old who sets out to fulfill his dreams of joining a local school. This week the Star talks to the aspiring filmmaker about his debut film, his inspiration and other things.
Current Project
At the moment I am co-directing the film 'Paatshala' with Faisal Roddy. This is a very positive and inspiring story about a 10-year-old Manik who uses discipline, hard work and self-confidence to embark on a remarkable journey.
Struggle That You Faced While Making Paatshala
We need more skilled people in the country and that's why we need a more improved institute dedicated to filmmaking.
A Dream Yet to Be Fulfilled
Like our neighbouring countries I believe that our film industry needs to expand more.
If You Could Change One Thing About Dhaka
I think that the over-bridges need to be better maintained, so that people feel motivated to use them instead of risking their lives while crossing busy intersections.
