Rape-suicide case 10 months after a 12-yr-old girl died

Around 10 months after a 12-year-old girl died at a private hospital in Rampura, a rape and instigating suicide case was filed against unknown people on Tuesday.

The mother of the girl filed the case with Rampura Police Station after getting an autopsy report last week. The report stated that the victim was raped before her death.

The victim's father told The Daily Star, "My younger daughter was a domestic help at the house of one Rajin Ahmed in East Hajipara area of Rampura.

"After working for around a month there, my daughter on January 28 informed my wife over the phone that she would not work there as she was being tortured," he said.

The next day, Rajin Ahmed's wife Rifat Jahan Chowdhury informed the mother that her daughter was taken to nearby Better Life Hospital as she was suffering from some problems, said the case statement.

When the complainant, along with her relatives, went to the hospital, Rifat Jahan Chowdhury told them that her daughter killed herself by hanging, the case statement read.

Later, the mother informed police, who made an inquest report and took the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The victim's father yesterday said they want justice.

Contacted, Md Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station, told The Daily Star they got an autopsy report, which mentioned evidence of rape and suicide.
