Bangladesh’s technology sector important destination for Japanese investment

Bangladesh's technology sector is an important place for Japanese investment, said Ito Naoki, ambassador of Japan to the country.

"Bangladesh has advanced a lot in terms of information technology. Therefore, the IT sector of Bangladesh is a potential sector for investment. The government of Bangladesh has taken various programmes giving great importance to the information technology sector," he said.

"So, there is a lot of opportunity for Bangladesh and Japan to work together in the information technology sector."

He was speaking at an event titled "BASIS Japan Day 2022" organised by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) at a hotel in the capital on Sunday.

The envoy believes that events like "BASIS Japan Day" will play a key role in boosting trade investment and networking.

He praised the activities of the BASIS Japan Desk and encouraged it to do more.

"Bangladesh and Japan have very good and close relations. The BASIS always works to improve the relations between Bangladesh and Japan by bridging business ties in the field of technology," said BASIS President Russell T Ahmed.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for ICT, said: "It is the right time for Bangladesh to work together with Japan."

Masud Bin Momen, senior secretary of the foreign affairs ministry, also spoke.
