9 die in road crashes

Nine people were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents across the country yesterday. Our Mymensingh correspondent reports, three people were killed and three others injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a human hauler on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road at Char Shreerampur in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh around 2:30pm. The dead are Jasim Uddin, 60, his grandson Abdul Quium, 15. Identity of the other dead, woman aged about 50, could not be known immediately. Our Pabna correspondent reports, three died as a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Pabna highway in Binnadari area early yesterday. The accident occurred as the auto-rickshaw took a sudden turn sensing the presence of robbers on the road and was hit by the bus behind. The victims are Rajib Mollik, 22, Prince Hossain, 25 and Nazmul Hossain, 24, of Santhia upazila of Pabna. Our Gaibandha correspondent adds, Nabir Hosain, 50, was killed and five other people were injured when a tractor hit a tempo on Gaibandha-Nakaihat near Gaibandha Government College gate road. Our Manikganj correspondent reports, Ramzan Ali, 6, son of late Barek Ali, was killed as a bus ran over him while crossing Dhaka-Aricha highway at Manora village in Sadar upazila. Our Natore correspondent adds, Jemi Khatun, 6, daughter of Ziaul Haq, died as a tractor hit the bicycle carrying her in Zigori bazar area in Bagatipara upazila.
