Schoolboy abducted, brutally killed
An abducted schoolboy was strangled, then beheaded and then his body burnt up to destroy evidence.
The abductors then put the remains of Arman Khan, 10, into a sack and dumped it in a septic tank belonging to the local UP member Koyes Ali of Baoitara village under Sadar upazila
The horrific details about the brutal killing came to light after police nabbed one of the alleged abductors Rasheda Khatun, the first maternal aunt of Arman, the only son of Mokkadesh Ali of Jhaoil village under Kamarkhand upazila.
Police recovered the remains of the victim on Wednesday night after Rasheda confessed to her involvement in the sensational killing.
Sub Inspector Abdul Barik, of Sadar police station said that Arman stayed at his maternal uncle's house at Baoitara village under Sadar upazila. There he was a student of Grade III at Baoitara Government Primary School. He was kidnapped in the afternoon of October 3 while returning from school.
In the evening of the same day, the abductors phoned up the family and demanded a ransom of Tk 2 lakh. The family grew suspicious when the male caller asked them to deposit the amount to the victim's maternal aunt Rashida Khatun. Failing to manage the full amount, Arman's relatives on October 5 gave Tk 5000 and asked Rasheda to seek five more days' time from the abductors for payment of the rest money. On the same day, a second telephone call from the kidnappers set October 7 as a deadline and said failure to pay by then would lead to the death of Arman.
As Arman's father is a migrant worker living in Malaysia, the boy's mother Marzina Begum, immediately rushed to the Sadar police station and filed a case, accusing four people including Rasheda Khatun, her mother Bedena Khatun, Bablu Sheikh and Abdul Wadud.
Rasheda confessed to the police that following filing of the case, they decided to kill the boy. On Wednesday morning Rasheda was arrested and on the basis of her confessional statement police recovered the remains, charred skull and bones, of the deceased the same night.
Rasheda's husband Akbar Ali is also a migrant worker in Malaysia and Bablu Sheikh, son of Nabin Sheikh is a neighbour. Police are also grilling UP member Koyes Ali, in whose septic tank the remains of the boy were found.
Police said that Rasheda had an extra marital relation with a notorious criminal. Recently she had a feud with mother of Arman on this issue. The incident of brutal killing took place as a sequel to the past enmity, police said.
