Boy gets life for murder
A court here on Thursday sentenced a teenage boy to life term rigorous imprisonment for killing another teenage boy in Chhagalnaiya upazila of the district in 2007.
Convict Tanvir Ahmed Arefin alias Samrat, 18, is son of Nurul Amin Bhuiyan of Gothaia Sonapur village under the same upazila.
According to the case statement, on May 18, 2007, Samrat took his neighbour Robiul Aawal Robi, 14, a class VII student and son of an expatriate, to a lonely place at the village and took away his mobile set sent by his father.
As Robiul tried to resist, Samrat killed him and hid the body under hyacinth in a ditch.
Two days after the killing, his body was recovered by police from the water body.
Victim's mother Ruby Akther later lodged a murder case with Chhagalnaiya police station and police arrested Samrat on May 25 of the same year.
