Dinajpur miners call off strike
Mine workers at Madhyapara Granite Mining Company Ltd (MGMCL) called off their indefinite strike on Saturday afternoon following a meeting between the miners and officials.
All 289 miners went on an indefinite strike on Thursday morning protesting assault on a miner by an official on the previous day.
After the two-hour meeting, the miners returned to their work at around 1:00pm.
Sources said, at the meeting the MGMCL authorities took the allegation of the miners into consideration and asked them to file a complaint officially. They also ensured the miners of taking action after a probe into the incident.
Sources said that a Deputy Assistant Engineer of mining slapped a worker while he was working at the mine's underground on Wednesday afternoon.
During the incident, the official also hurled abuse at the worker, the miners alleged.
