5 cops injured in clash with gamblers
At least five police personnel were injured in a clash with gamblers in Mohalchhara area under Sadar upazila on Sunday night.
Of the injured, Sub-Inspector Abul Hossain Kohan, nayak Abul Kalam and Mohammad Jamal, and constables Aman and Abdul Latif, were given first aid at Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital.
Police and locals said a gang of criminals set up a few tents for gambling near the resident of Mong circle chief where a three-day Rajpunnah festival was going on.
On information, police rushed to the spot at around 11:30pm and asked the gang to stop the gambling that led the clash, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer in-charge of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station.
At one stage, the gamblers hurled brick chips at the policemen, leaving at least five of them injured.
Later, the law enforcers fired 10 to 12 blank shots to bring the situation under control.
