Locals of several villages were building an earthfill dam on the Bhadra river using a rented excavator yesterday, before beginning repair work of the broken embankment in Deluti union of Khulna’s Paikgachha upazila. They have taken it upon themelves to fix the protective structure as there is no government initiative in sight as yet. The authorities has dug up the North South Road in the capital’s Bangshal to install underground drainage pipes, significantly narrowing the space for traffic.
