Dhaka Theatre joins this celebration by bestowing the esteemed 'Seilm Al Deen Padak' upon the illustrious actor Pijush Bandyopadhyay and the eminent theatre personality Syed Jamil Ahmed. 

The forty dancers are the second batch of Arthy Ahmed’s adult beginners dance course and workshops. Now, after undergoing the three-month long course and five workshops, they are opting to stage a grand dance recital titled “Riturongo”.

Currently based in Toronto, Canada, Sumaiya had majored in Fine Arts from SMUCT, Dhaka, along with a degree in Graphic Design and Multimedia.

On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of theatre troupe Swapnadal, the troupe has organised dual exhibitions of their most popular production, "Chitrangada" directed by Zahid Repon.

Yesterday, Morshed Mishu announced on his Facebook that he and 4 Bangladeshi artists' artworks were exhibited in Cambridge, Boston, USA under the title “Electric Bangladesh; Fossil Free Future”

Even after being acclaimed and acknowledged all over the world, including India, Pakistan, the USA, Britain, and Europe, SM Sultan’s artworks before the 1950s remain a mystery as most of these could not be traced due to his nomadic nature.

The four-day event, held at the Edge Gallery on Gulshan North Avenue, features a collection of paintings and sculptures by 26 of the country’s leading veterans and emerging artists from Bangladesh’s art industry. Rumana Chowdhury, the editor and publisher of MW Bangladesh, is the curator of the event.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was presided over by Nilu Rowshon Murshed –Bangladeshi art collector and chairperson of Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts.

From children’s books to internationally applauded films, from lyrical ballads to Netflix series, wherever we put our senses, they are filled with the legacy of the “Bard of Bengal”, Rabindranath Tagore. Do we ever ask ourselves what we would do without him? Do we wonder how the entire culture of the Indian subcontinent is wrapped around his existence?

The play, “Tirthojatri” is adapted from popular writer Humayun Kabir’s philosophical fiction “Tirthojatri Tinjon Tarkik.” The play is co-written by the fiction's original author, and Tauquir himself.

Author and former member of parliament Panna Kaiser, wife of martyred intellectual Shahidullah Kaiser, passed away today. She was 73. 

Popular actors Chanchal Chowdhury, Brindabon Das, and Shahnaz Khushi captivated the audience in Sydney, Australia, with their mesmerising stage performances. Under the banner of BongOz Films, the trio presented the play "Dorir Khela," leaving the audience in awe on July 30.

In 2021, the Art Gallery of Mississauga in Canada made history by hosting the grand art exhibition, "Art of a Young Nation: Bangladesh," to commemorate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh.

“Texture and mixture”, with 67 artworks on display, was inaugurated on July 28 at Kala Kendra in the presence of economist and writer Anu Mohammad, and political activist, feminist and environmentalist Khushi Kabir. 

Chanchal Chowdhury is currently in Sydney, Australia to perform a special theatrical act at Bryan Brown Theatre, Bankstown. 

Participants from countries including Bangladesh, France, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia performed at the event.

The play "Prachya" will start staging at 8pm instead of 7pm. The news was confirmed by one of the founders of the group, Freedom Fighter and eminent cultural personality Nasir Uddin Yusuff, to The Daily Star.

The scholarship is awarded by Bengal Foundation in favor of eminent artist and researcher Ganesh Haloi of West Bengal. This initiative encourages the way of research, inquiry and exploration on various issues related to the performing arts practice of Bangladesh and it will be enlivened with new perspectives.

The celebration will be graced by noted cultural personalities including the likes of – Ramendu Majumdar, Ferdousi Mazumder, Mamunur Rashid, M Hamid and Syed Salauddin Zaki. Besides that, an art exhibition on Orientalism and Dualism will be opened from 5:30pm and the play “Prachyo” will be staged at 7 pm.

A total of 30 artworks are adorning  the gallery space of the exhibition, most of which are in the media of etching and aquatint.
