Kamruzzaman Chan, chairman of Sikdermallik Union Parishad under Pirojpur Sadar upazila has been temporarily suspended from his post.

The Local Government Department (LGD) gave the suspension order to Chan.

The suspension letter, signed on August 5 by Sharifa Ahmed, senior assistant secretary of LGD, and uploaded to the website of the department, says that Chan is an accused in a case filed under Speedy Trial Act (case No 1/15) and the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court-1 in Pirojpur had accepted the charge sheet of the case on April 6 this year.

On January 5 this year, local AL and BNP locked in a clash when they were observing 'democracy saving day' and democracy killing day,' respectively. Chan, also shawnirbhor affairs secretary of Pirojpur district unit of BNP, was suspended as he was accused in a case filed in connection with this incident.

Chan said that he has come to know about the suspension order, but he has not got any official order yet.

"I am being politically harassed by ruling party men and so I have been given the suspension order," said Chan.
