Schoolgirl hacked to death in Jamalpur
A schoolgirl was hacked to death by unidentified criminals at Baluata village under Adra union in Melandah upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased, Surja Khatun, daughter of farm labourer Abdul Kuddus of the village, was a Class IV student of Baluata Government Primary School.
Police, quoting the victim's family members, said her father Abdul Kuddus went out of his house to work at around 4:00am, without closing the door.
His daughter Surja Khatun was sleeping alone in the other room of the house.
Criminals entered the room where the girl was asleep15-20 minutes after her father left the house. They hacked her with sharp weapons and left the scene, said Nasimul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Melandah Police Station.
Hearing the groaning of the girl, her mother Hanufa Begum woke up and saw her daughter lying in a pool of blood on the bed. Surja succumbed to her injuries after a while, said the OC.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police are trying to arrest the criminals involved in the killing and unearth clue to the murder, the OC added.
No case was filed in connection with the murder as of 4:00pm yesterday.
