Man killed over land dispute

An elderly man was beaten to death by his rivals allegedly over a disputed land in Sadar upazila yesterday.

The deceased, Afsar Ali, 72, was a resident of Kornai village in the upazila.

Police said there had been a longstanding rivalry between Afsar and one Nur Islam and his men over the ownership of a disputed land.

As a sequel, both the groups had an altercation yesterday morning, and, at one stage, Nur and his men beat Afsar mercilessly, leaving him death on the spot.

On information, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
