Girl rescued 40 days after abduction

Members of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) rescued a girl from Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj district yesterday, 40 days after abduction from Sadar upazila of Narsingdi district by her brother-in-law.

On August 4, Habibur Rahman, alias Habib, brother-in-law of the victim, took her to Araihazar of Narayanganj where he allegedly raped her.

Following the incident, the victim's father filed a case with Narsingdi court. As per court order, PBI started drives to rescue the girl.

Tipped off, the members of PBI rescued the girl yesterday afternoon. They also arrested Habib.

Habib's wife said her husband took her sister out of the house at Agdi Kandipara village on August 4, saying they were going for a walk. Later, he forcibly took her to Araihazar and confined her to a house, she added.

Apple Mahmud, additional police superintendent of PBI, said the victim was raped by her brother-in-law.

Habib, an unemployed youth, used to stay at his in-laws' house.
