Drug addict kills wife

A woman was killed allegedly by her drug addict husband for money in Joypurhat Sadar upazila early yesterday.

The deceased, Suborna Sarkar, 30, was wife of Hridoy Sarkar of Beroil village in the upazila.

Police, however, detained Hridoy, 36, for alleged involvement in the murder.

Quoting locals, police said Hridoy, a drug addict youth, often used to torture his wife for money.

On Wednesday night, the couple locked in an altercation over the issue and later went to sleep.

Around midnight Hridoy woke up and strangled his wife to death before trying to flee the scene, locals said, adding that neighbours caught Hridoy from the spot and handed him over to the police.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Joypurhat Modern Hospital for autopsy, Officer in Charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Alamgir Jahan said, adding that a case was filed with the police station in this regard.

Earlier on November 26, another drug addict stabbed his 22-day-old kid to death in Dinajpur's Phulbari upazila after his wife refused to give him money for buying drugs.
