4 of a family stabbed

Four members of a family, including three women, sustained critical stab injuries in an attack allegedly by a group of criminals in Kalihati upazila on Sunday night.

The injured are Riya, 19, a resident of Kuchuti village under Bangra union in the upazila, her mother Rahima, 47, elder brother Riyadul and cousin Anti, 18. 

Of them, Riya, Riyadul and Anti is admitted at Tangail General Hospital while Rahima was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Victim's relatives said Riya was married to Nazmul, a fruits vendor from Sadar upazila, about a year ago. But recently Riya divorced him and Nazmul has been threatening her family members with dire consequences since then.

Around 9:00pm, Nazmul his eight cohorts, riding on three motorcycles, entered Riya's house and stabbed Riya and three of her family members with sharp weapons and fled the scene.
