SC clears way for probing 'graft' by AL MP Bahauddin Nasim
The Supreme Court yesterday cleared the way for the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate a corruption case filed against ruling Awami League lawmaker AFM Bahauddin Nasim.
The apex court cancelled a High Court verdict that had scrapped the ACC's move to investigate the case, ACC lawyer Syed Mamun Mahbub told The Daily Star.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by the ACC, he added.
The commission filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station on November 21, 2007, accusing Nasim of amassing wealth worth Tk 1.83 crore without any known source of income and concealing information of wealth worth Tk 17.58 lakh.
Following a writ petition filed by Nasim, the HC on March 4, 2012 quashed the case's proceedings.
The ACC the same year filed an appeal with the SC challenging the HC verdict.
