19 houses, 5 shops gutted in Comilla, Bogra

At least four people were injured and 19 houses gutted in a fire at Sultanpur village in Deviddar upazila of the district early yesterday. Fire Brigade sources said originating from electric short circuit, the fire burned down the houses at about 3:30am, leaving four inmates injured. The injured are Abdus Salam, 50, Nannu Sheikh, 55, Mostafa, 35, and Abdur Razzak, 40. Among them, Abdus Salam was admitted to a local hospital. Firefighters from Muradnagar fire station rushed in and doused the blaze after three hours of frantic efforts. In Bogra, a devastating fire gutted five shops at Kagil Bazar in Gabtoli upazila of the district on Saturday noon. Sources said the fire broke out at a cosmetics shop at noon and soon engulfed four adjoining shops. On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and controlled fire. However, the affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 25 lakh. Locals said a rival gang might have set the fire due to past enmity over extortion. A clash ensued between two groups at the market following the fire incident that left five people injured.
