Kidnapped boy rescued in Tangail, one held

Police rescued a five-year-old boy from Sakhipur upazila early yesterday, 15 hours after his abduction. They also arrested one Mansur Ali, 25, of Alokdia village under Sadar upazila on charge of abducting the boy. The victim is identified as Apon, son of Kamrul Hassan of Nimtoli area in the district town. Nazrul Islam, officer in-charge of Tangail Model Police Station, said Mansur kidnapped Apon from in front of their residence on Monday afternoon and later took him to an unknown place. The abductor demanded Tk 10 lakh as ransom from family members. He also threatened to kill the boy if the demand was not met. Following a case filed by the victim's father, a team of police led by Sub-Inspector Shafiqur Rahman raided a house of Sakhipur Bazar area at midnight and rescued Apon. They also arrested Mansur from the area, the OC added. After a primary interrogation, the arrestee said two more people were also involved in connection with the incident. Later, he was produced before a court that sent him to jail, the OC said.
