Local journalists yesterday staged a demonstration demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the criminals who injured the daily Samakal reporter ABM Fazlur Rahman on the Edward College campus on Saturday. As part of their five-day agitation programme, the journalists yesterday held a rally in front of Pabna Press Club at around 11:30am, went to the police superintendent's office in a silent procession and submitted a memo to the home minister through Police Superintendent Jahangir Hossain Matobbar. They will form a human chain in the town on May 24, stage demonstration in front of the office of Pabna superintendent of police on May 27 and in front of Pabna deputy commissioner's office on May 29, and hold protest meetings in every upazila of the district on May 30. The agitation programme was announced at a press conference on Monday. At yesterday's rally, the journalisats announced that they would continue their agitation programmes across the district until the arrest of the real culprits. Pabna Press Club President Prof Shibojit Nag, Secretary Ahmedul Haque Rana, veteran journalist Ronesh Maitra, Anwarul Haque addressed the rally and then led the procession. Police on Monday arrested Shoshti Jugi, 27, and Babu Hossain, 30, of Jugipara village in Pabna Sadar upazila, on suspicion of their connection with the attack. "We caught them suspecting their connection with the attack on journalist Fazlur Rahman. Investigation is going on to find out the attackers,” said the police superintendent. The arrestees were yesterday produced in a court that sent them to jail.
