2 held from border village with arms, bullets and explosives
Police arrested two people, including an Indian national, along with three pistols, 55 bullets and one kg explosives from bordering Khamarpara village in Sharsha upazila of the district yesterday noon.
The arrestees are Biswanath Biswas, 30, son of Shiva Biswas of Gangli village under North 24-parganas district in India and Moniruzzaman, 32, son of Nurul Islam of Bahadurpur village in the upazila.
Faruk Hossain, officer in-charge of Sharsha police station, said on secret information, a team of Goarpara police raided the area and arrested the duo along with the arms, bullets and explosive.
“The arrestees were smuggling arms and explosives into Bangladesh from India for long”, the OC added.
In Dinajpur, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered one revolver, an airgun and a bullet at Chakendor village under Birampur upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team led by Md Shamsul Haque of Katla special camp, raided the house of one Ziaur Rahman, 38, of the village at around 2:00am and seized the arms.
However, Ziaur managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the team, said BGB sources.
