A Barisal court yesterday sentenced a Jubo League leader to death for killing a female schoolteacher in Agoiljhara upazila in the district last year. The convict is Sirajul Islam alias Abul Gomosta, ward Jubo League joint secretary at Purba Sujankathi village under the upazila. The victim, Sharmin Akhter Shimu, was a teacher of Purba Sujankathi Government Primary School. Following a case filed by Sharmin's father with Agoiljhara Police Station on October 13, police arrested Abul. Sub-Inspector Ali Hossain, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted charge sheet against the Jubo League leader on December 6.
