A Bangladeshi boy has returned home after languishing in an Indian jail for five months. Indian Immigration police handed over the boy, Bishad Roy, 9, son of Balai Chandra Roy of Jawrani village in Hatibandha upazila, to Burimari immigration police at zero point of Burimari land port Wednesday noon. Later, Burimari Immigration police handed over the boy to his parents in presence of advocate Salma Ali, executive director of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA). Bishad was picked up by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) from no-man's land on Jawrani border in Hatibanda upazila on November 3 in 2011. He went there to bring their three goats home. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 31 Battalion immediately asked its Indian counterpart to return the boy but the Indian border guards did not respond positively. They handed over Bishad to Sitai police station of Cooch Behar district the following day. On November 5, he was sent to a jail. On an appeal made by Bishad's parents, Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA) communicated with a voluntary organisation in Cooch Behar about release of the boy. The organisation contacted with a children's welfare committee that helped Bishad get released from jail on March 3.
