Furnace explosion burns 2 workers in Dhaka

Two workers suffered burn injuries in an explosion of a steel melting furnace in Shyampur Industrial area of Dhaka this morning.

The injured are Masum, 22, and Mithu, 23, said Abdullah Khan, an assistant sub-inspector of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Police Outpost.

According to the police official, an explosion occurred in the furnace around 5:00am at ‘Ali Jan Steel Mill’ in the area.

Consequently, liquid metal fell on them that left the duo injured, he said.

They were rushed to DMCH around 5:30am from where Mithu was released after giving primary treatment while Masum, who suffered 42 percent burns, is still undergoing treatment there, he told The Daily Star in the morning.
