UP chairman lands in jail

A Kushtia court yesterday sent four people, including a local union parishad (UP) chairman to jail in connection with a case for embezzling government rice.

The accused are Goshwami Durgapur UP Chairman Dabir Uddin Biswas, also general secretary of the union unit Awami League (AL), Maruful Islam, a member of Ward No under the same union, Sarwar Hossain, president of Ward No 1 unit AL, and rice dealer Montu Hossain.
