Unsolicited advice

M A Hoque, On e-mail
Recently, there have been scores of envoys and emissaries from abroad to render unsolicited advice to us on the current political situation; such as, what we should do and what we should not do etc. Even recently a foreign visitor has threatened to withdraw the international peace keeping facility now provided by the UN to Bangladesh, if the army steps in to quell the situation. It seems the foreigners are taking advantage of the differences between the political parties and trying to poke their noses in our internal affairs to fish in the troubled water for their ulterior motives. The people of Bangladesh maintain the Armed Forces out of the taxpayers' money to save the country, if the need arises; from the external as well as any internal threats, NOT for participation in any international peace keeping force ! The interested quarters now seem more concerned about protection of the so called democracy and constitution only. But no one is concerned or even thinking of the country itself which is being destroyed in the process. The question of protection of democracy or the constitution arise only when the country survives. If the country remains constantly under turmoil, its economic backbone will be crushed and the country will never be able to stand on its own feet, thereby making it vulnerable to civil war like African countries.

Moreover, it will not be able to make any progress rendering the country an "unworkable" one , paving the way for foreign intervention. Therefore, my advice to our so-called well-wishers is: please leave us alone and mind your own business. We will decide what action is best needed for the country at the moment. We have the capacity to solve our problems and the people of this country will not hesitate to take, as they took earlier also, whatever action is required to save the country, this time from the clutches of the power hungry politicians who, to safeguard their selfish party interests over the national interest, are now out even to destroy the country itself.
