I was eagerly waiting to listen to the much awaited address of our Honourable President to the nation on the night of 10th December. Immediately after the address an incident flashed in my mind. It was back in 1982. I was traveling by steamer service Gazi to Barisal to conduct Honours Examination at B.M. College. General H. M. Ershad was addressing the nation for the first time after taking power from Justice Satter. Many passengers assembled at the VIP lounge to listen to the speech. The address over, an elderly gentleman proceeded to his cabin and made a one word comment, 'Cheat'. After listening to our president on the night of 10th December, I could not find a word.
