Tarique pays tribute to martyrs at national memorial

New prime minister visits Savar monument before first cabinet meeting at Secretariat

Newly elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, accompanied by members of his cabinet.

The prime minister and the cabinet members placed wreaths at the memorial at around 11:00am. He later signed the visitors’ book.

After placing a wreath at the memorial, he planted a flower sapling on the premises.

Tarique, accompanied by the members of the new cabinet, visited the graves of his parents -- BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia -- at Zia Udyan around 12:00pm and offered prayers.

He was then set to visit the Secretariat, where the first cabinet meeting of the new government was due to be held in the afternoon.

The prime minister is also expected to exchange views with secretaries after the meeting.
