Stay home, stay well: Time to reinvent oneself
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has been affecting virtually the whole world as both casualties and the number of infected are on the rise.
Bangladesh is no exception. There is a shutdown across the country to contain the spread of the highly contagious Covid-19, but the numbers are going up regardless.
In such a situation, Prof ABM Abdullah, personal physician of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, urged the people to stay at home at any cost.
"We know it is tough to stay home for a long time but these are very unusual times and we all have to accept it," he told The Daily Star.
"We are at a very crucial stage and to overcome this pandemic, all have to come forward from their respective positions as the government alone cannot do everything," he said.
The medicine specialist suggested that people should reinvent themselves during this crisis. They have enough time on their hands and they should utilise it properly.
"We have hobbies and we can cultivate those during this time. For example, one loves to read books and if the person has a number of books unread, he or she can get started on those," he said.
He also said that, though parents may be stressed, it is important that it is not channelled through to their children.
"Spend quality time with children and family members. Use this time to cement ties," he suggested.
Professor Abdullah said maintaining a healthy diet and a routine is very important to keep physically fit.
"Stay hydrated and this is the time of season change, so people may suffer from normal fever, or coughing or even dengue. So, don't be puzzled. If necessary, consult a physician," he said.
"If not serious, it is better to consult with doctors through telemedicine," he added.
