Nadia Ahmed is a well-known personality in the world of acting, dancing, and modelling. Her last venture on television was with the popular tele-fiction "Bokulpur", where she plays the role of a Jatra princess.

In a candid interview with The Daily Star, Nadia Ahmed opens up about her upcoming projects and her love for dancing.

You have become a prominent face in tele-fictions based in rural settings. What is the reason behind that?

It is true that I am working in a lot of tele-fictions based in rural settings, so much so that people have started assuming that I was born in a village – but that is not true.

Most actresses don't want to play rural characters. However, this genre has gained a lot of popularity, and thus, I am reaching a wide audience.

What has been your most popular village-based tele-fiction in the last two years?

"Bokulpur" is quite popular. Directed by Kaisar Ahmed, the tele-fiction used to air on Deepto TV. People still recognise me as the Jatra Princess from it.

The shooting of the series was halted due to Covid-19 restrictions, but the production of "Bokulpur" will resume very soon.

You have been working in showbiz for 20 years and acted in a multitude of serials. What kind of roles do you want to play next?

Literary tele-fictions are something that I want to pursue, as I have many favourite novels.

Usually, I play the role of a wife in serials but I want to come out of that shell and play negative roles in a tele-fiction. I want to work on urban stories as well.

You have been a dancer from a young age. Most of the time, artistes leave dancing once they get into acting. Why are you still passionate towards dancing?

Dancing is my first love, and I want to pursue it with all my heart. I have received immense love and support from audiences for being a dancer, and as an artiste, this is my biggest achievement. Throughout my career, I have performed in various dance programmes, be it in the country or abroad. People still remember my dance performance on BTV with Likhon.

Why are you not doing movies?

I have been getting commercial film offers since 2000. However, my family didn't like the idea of me working in movies and I wasn't keen on being part of films as well. I tried to focus my energy more on acting, modelling, and doing stage shows.

However, a lot of good scripts have been produced on the silver screen. A lot of TV artistes are doing movies as well. So, if I get a good script, I will surely do it.
