Plight of garment industries

GMJ Abdur Rab Baridhara, Dhaka
Like me, many were stunned by the violent demonstrations of the garment workers which were unprecedented in the history of any industry in Bangladesh. In the past, many industries, especially jute industry, experienced workers' agitation in the industrial areas, but the workers never resorted to burning and looting. Naturally, one has to think whether it was for better wages only or there was a conspiracy behind the movement. One fails to understand why females, who constitute 80 per cent of the work force, didn't take part in the movement.

I believe the conspiracy is deep-rooted. How in Dhaka, Gazipur. Savar and Konabari such agitation could be organised at the same time? Who were behind it?
