Cabinet to decide on extension of Eid-ul-Fitr holiday
The government is considering extending the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays to make travel easier for holidaymakers.
The decision will be finalised at the next Cabinet meeting, to be presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Currently, the official calendar shows a five-day Eid holiday from March 19 to March 23. Since March 26 is a public holiday followed by the weekend, there is a proposal to also declare March 24 and 25 as holidays.
If approved, government employees could enjoy a continuous 10-day vacation.
The Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Road Transport are weighing the decision, following the success of longer holidays last year, which helped reduce traffic congestion.
